2005-2008 Bedrijfsgebouw Winters, Breda
Uitgangspunt voor het ontwerp is een rechthoekig volume dat door een eenduidige materialisatie van gekleurd beton een krachtige uitstraling heeft. Een uitsnede in het volume genereert een overdekte entree, een patio en een dakterras dat aan de kantine grenst. De uitsnede zorgt tevens voor een bijzonder lichtinval en geeft het gebouw de benodigde privacy. Een ritmische schakeling van betonpanelen bepaalt de architectuur van de gevel. De gevelpanelen zijn doorgezet om de bedrijfshal. Het bedrijfsgebouw krijgt door deze gevelbehandeling een sterke eigen identiteit die zich onttrekt aan de gebruikelijke kop-staart oplossing voor bedrijfsgebouwen.
The building is conceived as a clear rectangular volume. The facades are clad in an alternation of concrete and glass panels of the same size. As a result of this uniform appearance the building does not fit in the common industrial-building typology where the office-part is separated in form and material from the production hall. The withdrawal from this kind of "head-tail"-typology lends the building a great sense of dignity and distinction in the industrial area, and actually intensifies the clients identity as a developer and builder. The sidelong position of the building and the entrance on the site strengthen this distinctive character.
A cut in the volume determines a courtyard and a roofterrace. The courtyard allows for daylight straight into the heart of the building, while at the same time it offers privacy and a quiet working athmosphere. The rhythmic pattern of concrete and glass panels determines the external façade. A special aluminium façade-system has been developed for this project that made it possible to position the concrete and glass panels in the same plane in a flat and reduced manner. In contrast to this abstract exterior the courtyard has been treated in an inversed manner. Here the material for the façade is oiled western red cedar. In the form of a canopy and a guiding wall this warm and tactile inner world steps outside.
