Aartsenfruit is een toonaangevend import- en exportbedrijf met het totale groenten- en fruitpakket vanuit alle delen van de wereld. Het is van oudsher een familiebedrijf dat door expansieve groei in de jaren '80 en '90 keer op keer genoodzaakt is het terrein en de gebouwen uit te breiden.
De boerderij, die stamt uit de beginperiode van het bestaan, staat aan de rand van het grote terrein en heeft voor Aartsenfruit een representatieve waarde. Het nieuwe kantoorgebouw is op heldere wijze "ingeplugged" op de bestaande boerderij van Aartsenfruit. De positie van de nieuwbouw is zorgvuldig gekozen zodat boerderij en paviljoen samen in een parkachtige setting komen te staan, waarbij een aantal waardevolle bomen zijn gehandhaafd. Als gebouw vertegenwoordigt de nieuwbouw -letterlijk gesteld naast de historische boerderij- de huidige tijd en manier van werken in het bedrijf: helder, open, fris en strak, zakelijk, en met groot gevoel voor kwaliteit, tot op het kleinste detail in het interieur. Een houten loper verbindt de boerderij met de nieuwbouw en is tevens de schakel tussen de twee afdelingen: in de nieuwbouw, de commerciële afdeling, in de boerderij, de boekhouding. Op het kruispunt bevindt zich, centraal gelegen, de nieuwe entree. Niets in de ruimtes herinnert aan het stereotypische kantoorgebouw. Hoge vaste plafonds, parket, licht vitrage en zorgvuldig uitgedetailleerd kantoormeubilair geven het kantoor een mate van sereniteit en rust. Grote glaspartijen maken het gebouw transparant en de betrekking op het omringende landschap maximaal. Het speciaal geoliede hout voor de gevel verwijst naar de overal op het perceel aanwezige pallets waarop het fruit wordt opgeslagen. De terughoudende detaillering draagt bij aan de zuivere verschijning van het object.
Aartsenfruit is a leading import and export company offering a complete range of fruit and vegetable products from all four corners of the globe. Its roots as a family business stretch back many years and expansive growth during the 1980s and 1990s repeatedly forced the company to expand its premises and buildings.
A new commercial warehouse was constructed in anticipation of the new build. Here, the detailing of the new façades was based around a large number of existing warehouses. The uncoordinated ensemble of warehouses - which was expanded over the course of the company's history - has now been given a uniform, harmonious appearance thanks to the use of highly profiled steel plates in conjunction with flat steel panels, ultimately portraying an image of a large building complex.
Dating back to the very origins of the company, the farm is located at the edge of the site and has a symbolic value for Aartsenfruit.
The farm has been rebuilt numerous times over the years and much of its historical value has been lost. It originally housed both the commercial and accounting departments. An uncoordinated green structure surrounded the farm and was used for parking.
The connection between the new office building and the existing Aartsenfruit farm is clearly defined. Great care was taken when selecting the position of the new building to ensure that a park-like setting was created for the farm and pavilion. As a result, a number of valuable trees were deliberately retained. Located directly beside the historical farm, the new building as a structure represents the 21st century and the company's working ethos: transparent, open, innovative and modern, businesslike and with a great affinity for quality, right through the tiniest interior detailing.
A wooden-floored corridor links the farm with the new building and acts as the transition point between the company's two departments: commercial in the new building, accounting in the farm. The new entrance area is centrally located at the intersection.
None of the fixtures and fittings in the interior spaces are reminiscent of a stereotypical office building. High fixed ceilings, parquet, lightweight curtains and carefully selected detailing on the office furniture give the office a serene, peaceful ambience. Large glass panels make the building transparent and maximise the link with the surrounding landscape.
The use of wood for the façade echoes the pallets for storing the fruit which are located throughout the site. The cedar wood has been treated with a light white oil to ensure complete harmony between the tones of the farm and new building.
